According to reports, before the final week of the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund is in a strong position to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. A peculiar training method by Niko Kovac has played a decisive role in this success.

After Dortmund’s decisive 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, their chances of qualifying for the Champions League have significantly increased. Now, before the final matchday, the Black and Yellows once again hold their fate in their own hands.

What stood out most in the match against Leverkusen was the composure and accuracy of Dortmund’s players in finishing. Five shots on target and four goals! All while shooting practice during the week played little role—or perhaps precisely because of it.

    Karim Adeyemi

Karim Adeyemi said after the match: “We shot very little this week. The coach always says not to shoot after training; we need to be ready and fresh for the match. I’m the kind of player who wants to shoot more. But when the stats are like this, we should continue the same routine next week.”

Dortmund had only nine shots in total (with an xG of 1.42). In contrast, Leverkusen, despite having 19 shots, scored only two goals (their xG was 2.62).

In the final matchday, Borussia Dortmund will host Holstein Kiel—a team already relegated to the lower division.

If Dortmund wins this match by more than two goals, their Champions League qualification will be secured regardless of other teams’ results.
