According to reports, Matchday 36 of La Liga began with two matches, the most significant of which saw Deportivo Alavés defeat Valencia CF 1-0. This result confirmed UD Las Palmas’ relegation to La Liga 2 with two games left in the season.
In tonight’s match, Juan Jordán scored from the penalty spot in the 79th minute to secure the win for Alavés, who remain in the relegation battle.
The victory took Alavés to 38 points, moving them to 17th place, while Valencia remained in 11th with 45 points. Meanwhile, CD Leganés, who lost 3-0 to Villarreal tonight, are now chasing Alavés.
UD Las Palmas, following their 1-0 loss to Sevilla last night and Alavés’ win tonight, will be relegated even if they win their remaining two matches.
In La Liga, head-to-head results are the tiebreaker for teams level on points, and Alavés has a better record against 32-point Las Palmas.
The battle between Alavés and Leganés will continue until the final matchday, but Las Palmas and Real Valladolid have already been confirmed for relegation. Both teams must now focus on returning to La Liga next season.
