This incident occurred after Arsenal fans had previously received security warnings to remain vigilant in Paris due to concerns about potential clashes with PSG ultras. Approximately 2,000 Arsenal fans traveling to Paris for the match received free red and white scarves when collecting their tickets. However, concerns were raised that wearing these scarves in the city could make them potential targets for attacks.

Arsenal had advised their fans to take reasonable precautions and especially avoid the “Auteuil” area where PSG ultras gather.
