The Best Season of Pedri’s Career
Pedri Set to Play His 200th Game for Barcelona
Pedri will play his 200th official match for Barcelona this Thursday against Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.
According to reports, Pedri has already won one La Liga title, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups, and is now on the verge of securing his second La Liga title.
Pedri must give his all in this match. First, because Barcelona can clinch the La Liga title with a win over Espanyol or if Real Madrid fails to defeat Mallorca. Second, because he will reach the milestone of 200 official appearances for Barcelona. His teammates have prepared a special jersey with the number 200 to commemorate this moment—provided Espanyol fans don’t storm the pitch after the match.
Pedri has scored 26 goals and provided 21 assists in his 199 appearances so far. He has received 12 yellow cards but has never been sent off and has played a total of 14,410 minutes.
His debut for Barcelona was on August 27, 2020, at Camp Nou against Villarreal, which ended in a dominant 4-0 victory under Ronald Koeman’s management. Initially, the 17-year-old Pedri was expected to rotate between the B team and the first team, but Koeman quickly recognized his talent, and Pedri never returned to the B team.
In his first season, he played almost every game, pushing himself to the limit. His consistent presence in the Spanish national team added extra pressure, and muscle injuries in subsequent seasons kept him sidelined for two to three months at a time.
Fortunately, this season, thanks to the efforts of the medical staff and injury prevention programs, he has overcome these issues and returned to his peak form.
Pedri has become a key figure in Hans-Dieter Flick’s project as the season nears its end. His consistent performances and leadership on the pitch have been so impactful that many consider him a serious contender for the Ballon d’Or.
Managers like Arsène Wenger and players like Toni Kroos regard Pedri as the team’s main leader and the primary catalyst for Barcelona’s dramatic turnaround—even more so than the emergence of a prodigy like Lamine Yamal.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Pedri has also become one of the dressing room leaders. Despite being just 22 years old, in his fifth season with Barcelona, he is now one of the team’s most experienced players. After extending his contract until June 2030 in January, he is on his way to becoming one of Barcelona’s all-time legends, following in the footsteps of Andrés Iniesta and Xavi Hernández—players he has always looked up to.
