    Predrag Mijatović:

Real Madrid should consider selling Vinícius Júnior

Predrag Mijatović, former Real Madrid star, believes the club’s management should seriously consider selling Vinícius Júnior.

According to reports, Mijatović had previously warned on November 6 that Real Madrid was losing control under Carlo Ancelotti. Now, more than six months after that statement and following Real Madrid’s defeat in El Clásico against Barcelona, the former Real star reiterated his stance on Cadena SER’s El Larguero program.

He said: “A season in which you lose four El Clásicos is a season where you should be worried and think about changes. It’s time for Real Madrid to spend money, sign players, strengthen the squad, and bring in players hungry for success.”

Mijatović also praised the choice of Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid’s future coach, stating: “He is a coach who knows what he wants. He has a strong personality and charisma, and sometimes personality is more important than tactics.”

Meanwhile, Mijatović directed most of his criticism at Vinícius Júnior. He stated that even with the recent contract extension until 2027, nothing extraordinary would happen if the player left in the summer. He said: “Maybe it’s time for Real Madrid to reconsider Vinícius’s future… Extending a player’s contract can also send a message: we renew your contract, but if necessary, we will sell you.

I personally don’t know Vinícius, but I’ve heard he’s a good person. However, at Real Madrid, it’s simple: if you perform well, you stay; if not, you’re sold or let go… Over the past decade, many great players have left this club.

Does Vinícius have more enemies than usual for a footballer? Yes, I agree with this view. Rival fans hate him because he’s a game-changer, but he has also fueled this negative image himself. This perception exists not only among rivals but also among some Real Madrid fans.

I constantly hear people say: he’s a great player, but why does he behave like this? This shows he’s gone wrong somewhere and needs to correct himself. The question is whether he can even do that or not.

Honestly, I doubt his personality will change. It’s his nature. He gets angry quickly, and when things don’t go his way, his behavior becomes annoying—not just for rivals but for his own fans too. This has damaged his image. But it doesn’t take away from his talent, impact, or footballing personality.”
