Protest Against Dani Alves’ Acquittal: He Should Be Imprisoned!
The Spanish Prosecutor’s Office has appealed the court ruling that acquitted Dani Alves, the former Barcelona star.
According to reports, the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office, which had previously announced its intention to appeal the ruling issued at the end of March by the Supreme Court of Catalonia, explained in a new report released on Wednesday that the court had made an “unreasonable and illogical” assessment of some of the evidence presented in the case.
Dani Alves, the former right-back of Barcelona, was initially sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault, but on March 28, the Barcelona Court of Appeal acquitted him. The court cited “insufficient credibility” of the plaintiff’s testimony and “inconsistencies” in the evidence. The judges also rejected the prosecution’s appeal against the initial verdict. However, the prosecution has now demanded a nine-year prison sentence for Alves.
The Spanish Prosecutor’s Office stated: “A completely arbitrary and ruthless ruling against the young woman, who was morally condemned and discredited.”
In the new appeal, the prosecution emphasized that the conclusions of the Catalonia court, including references to contradictions between the plaintiff’s behavior recorded by surveillance cameras and her account of the incident, were “completely incorrect, illogical, and even arbitrary.”
