Waiting for Liverpool’s Final Green Light
Real Madrid Close to Finalizing First Signing of the Season Against Al-Hilal
The transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid has become one of the hottest topics in the transfer market.
According to reports, the English right-back, whose contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, 2025, has rejected multiple renewal offers from the club, and his departure from Anfield seems inevitable.
Real Madrid is on the verge of finalizing this transfer, but the final details and contract signing remain pending. Real’s primary goal is to use Alexander-Arnold in the Club World Cup (starting June 14), but this depends on Liverpool’s approval.
Liverpool, though holding little hope of retaining their player, appears ready to accept his departure, provided Alexander-Arnold officially communicates his decision to the club. His relationship with Liverpool remains amicable, but the club is frustrated at losing a key player without financial compensation. One of Liverpool’s conditions is for Trent to waive his June salary (approximately €900,000 from his annual €11 million contract). This condition would partially offset the cost of his departure.
Another condition set by Liverpool is compensation from Real Madrid. The amount, though not substantial (less than €1 million), serves as financial compensation for Liverpool, who are losing the player for free. In total, considering Trent’s waived salary and Real’s compensation, Liverpool would receive between €1.5 to €2 million. This amount is minimal for a club losing a valuable player but better than nothing.
On the other hand, Real Madrid must complete the registration process for Alexander-Arnold for the Club World Cup. FIFA has designated two special transfer windows (June 1-10 and June 27-July 3) for this tournament. Real hopes to have Trent ready for the opening match against Al-Hilal (June 18), especially given Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury.
Alexander-Arnold is seen not only as a short-term solution for this tournament but also as a long-term fix for Real Madrid’s defensive line. However, everything depends on the final agreement and Real’s swift action.
