Despite the historic rivalry between the two clubs, Real Madrid displayed sportsmanship by congratulating Barcelona on their La Liga triumph, just as they had done three weeks earlier after Barcelona’s Copa del Rey victory.

Real Madrid, who only won the UEFA Super Cup this season, finished second in La Liga, seven points behind Barcelona, while securing their runner-up position ahead of Atletico Madrid.
