The main reason for Leandro Paredes’ surprising absence from Roma’s lineup is to prevent triggering a €2 million clause in favor of Paris Saint-Germain.

Roma Avoids Paying Paris, Leandro Paredes Benched!

According to reports, Roma’s resurgence under Claudio Ranieri continues as the Giallorossi secured a crucial victory against Fiorentina in the 35th round of Serie A, keeping them in contention for a Champions League spot.

One of the puzzling aspects of Roma’s recent matches has been the sudden benching of Leandro Paredes, who has been a key player this season. The Argentine midfielder has not played a single minute in Roma’s last two matches.

While it might seem like an injury is the reason for his absence, Italian newspaper Tuttosport revealed the real reason behind his exclusion—Roma’s reluctance to pay PSG a €2 million clause.

Tuttosport reports that Paredes’ contract includes a clause stating that if he plays 80 matches in his first two seasons at Roma, the club must pay PSG €2 million.

As a result, Paredes has unexpectedly found himself on the bench, and it is unlikely he will feature in Roma’s final three matches of the season.

The clause is valid only until June 2025, meaning the Argentine midfielder will be free to play without restrictions from the start of next season.
