Santiago Cañizares, former Real Madrid star, believes the Brazilian Football Confederation’s approach in selecting Carlo Ancelotti was inappropriate.

According to reports, Real Madrid has faced many changes in recent weeks and has gone through difficult days. Ancelotti’s departure from the team is certain, and it is expected that Xabi Alonso will soon be introduced as the new coach.

Cañizares, in an interview with David Sánchez on the program Despierta San Francisco, spoke about the difference between Real Madrid and Barcelona this season: “Barça won this season by competing, playing, and winning the title against Real Madrid, a team where only Mbappé, Fede Valverde, Modrić, Asensio, and Courtois were defensible. Real Madrid didn’t have much of a chance because Barcelona was the better team. Not by a huge margin, but overall, they were superior. However, the mentality of Real Madrid players is usually their best feature.”

He added about Xabi Alonso’s presence on Real Madrid’s bench: “I don’t know exactly what we’ll see from Xabi Alonso, but what I do know is that when a new coach comes in, there’s a psychological change in all teams.”

Cañizares also commented on Ancelotti’s departure from Real Madrid and his move to the Brazil national team: “I have always respected and admired Ancelotti, and soon everyone will remember what he has done. Usually, coaches leave when they haven’t achieved their goals. What Kroos did was very difficult. It’s the Brazilian Football Confederation that has been left behind in this matter and doesn’t have a good image. Ancelotti is a victim of their haste and poor performance.”
