    Sheffield United in Wembley Final

Sheffield United, a historic English football club, is one step away from returning to the Premier League. They defeated Bristol City 3-0 at home, Bramall Lane, securing a 6-0 aggregate victory to reach the Wembley final. One more win at Wembley will see Sheffield return to the top flight.

Sheffield United, backed by Iranian entrepreneur Pejman Nozad as an investor and board member, played 46 matches in the Championship, one of the toughest leagues in the world, finishing third in a fiercely competitive season.

This season’s Championship was historic, with Leeds and Burnley both reaching 100 points, with Leeds crowned champions due to a superior goal difference. The top two teams earn automatic promotion, while the third to sixth-placed teams enter the playoffs.

The playoff rule states that the third to sixth-placed teams compete in a four-way playoff. The third-placed team faces the sixth, while the fourth and fifth-placed teams play home-and-away matches. The winners advance to the Wembley final to determine the last promoted team.

Sheffield, finishing third with 90 points, faced sixth-placed Bristol City (68 points) in the playoff semifinals. As expected, Chris Wilder’s side dominated, winning 3-0 away with goals from Bogle (penalty), Brooks, and O’Hare.

In the other playoff semifinal, Coventry and Sunderland faced off. Sunderland won the first leg 2-1 at Coventry’s stadium. The second leg will be played at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. Sunderland, featuring Jude Bellingham’s brother, is favored, but Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, aims to overturn the deficit.

The winner of Sunderland vs Coventry will face Sheffield United at Wembley on May 24 to determine the final Premier League promotion spot.
