Inter Milan Coach’s Swift Response to Barcelona’s Criticism
Simone Inzaghi Answers Barcelona: Marciniak Was Excellent!
While Barcelona heavily criticized Szymon Marciniak, accusing him of biased refereeing, Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi defended the Polish referee.
Last night, no one was as furious with Szymon Marciniak as Barcelona. Hansi Flick and several Barcelona players strongly criticized him, claiming the renowned Polish referee favored Inter Milan.
But Marciniak had his supporters. When Ricardo Serra held up the Movistar microphone to Simone Inzaghi, the Inter coach defended Marciniak, saying: “Marciniak favored us? That’s Barcelona’s opinion. He is one of Europe’s best referees and officiated brilliantly tonight.”
Inzaghi’s defense came shortly after Barcelona demanded UEFA review Marciniak’s performance in the Inter-Barcelona match.
The match at San Siro had several controversial moments. In the first half, Marciniak initially believed Cubarsi cleared the ball fairly from Lautaro Martinez, but VAR intervened, leading to a penalty for Inter. Later, Mkhitaryan fouled Yamal, but after VAR review, Marciniak ruled it just outside the box, denying Barcelona a penalty. Hansi Flick also criticized Marciniak post-match, accusing him of favoring Inter in every 50-50 decision.
