Disappointment for United
Solskjaer: Watching Your Family Suffer Is Always Hard
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his disappointment with Manchester United’s struggles this season.
According to reports, Solskjaer stepped down as Manchester United manager in November 2021, nearly three years after first taking charge of the Red Devils. In his last full season, he led United to a second-place finish in the Premier League, a team that later realized the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Since Solskjaer’s departure, much has happened at Old Trafford. Under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United won two trophies, but the Dutch manager was also dismissed in October 2024. Ruben Amorim replaced him, but the club’s struggles in the Premier League continue. In the 2024-25 season, the Red Devils have suffered 15 defeats in 34 matches and sit 15th in the table with 39 points.
Solskjaer told BBC Sport about the team’s situation: “Manchester United is my family and will always be a part of me. In football, you don’t feel sorry for anyone because we’re lucky to work at clubs like this. It’s a privilege, 100%. But for me, watching this is hard because I see my family struggling. Seeing the league table on weekends is never easy.”
