Strange Clause: Luis Enrique Can’t Sign His Favorite Striker

Luis Enrique has requested Nasser Al-Khelaifi to sign Serhou Guirassy, but a special release clause in the Nigerian striker’s contract with Borussia Dortmund has made the transfer difficult for PSG.

Strange Clause: Luis Enrique Can't Sign His Favorite Striker

According to reports, Serhou Guirassy, Borussia Dortmund’s striker, has attracted the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs due to his extraordinary goal-scoring record this season.

His stats in his first season at Dortmund have been remarkable, despite the team’s struggles. Guirassy has scored 33 goals in 44 matches across all competitions, along with 9 assists.

The German newspaper Bild exclusively revealed that Luis Enrique, PSG’s Champions League finalist coach, has listed Guirassy as his top summer transfer target. Bild reports that Enrique is known within PSG as a staunch admirer of Guirassy’s football.

PSG signed Randal Kolo Muani for €90 million in the summer of 2024 as their classic striker, but he failed to impress Enrique and was subsequently loaned to Juventus.

What gives PSG hope is the possibility that Dortmund may miss out on next season’s Champions League. Guirassy has repeatedly stated that he wants to play for a team competing in the Champions League.

However, Guirassy is under contract with Dortmund until 2028. Bild reports that his contract includes a special release clause. The clause states that if Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal express interest in signing him, Dortmund cannot block the transfer. The absence of PSG from this clause makes it difficult for Luis Enrique to secure his favorite striker.
