Virgil van Dijk: Defeat to Chelsea really hurts!
Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, says he was very upset by the defeat against Chelsea despite the early Premier League title win.
Liverpool visited Chelsea in the 35th week of the Premier League and lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool’s captain, told Sky Sports after the defeat:“We didn’t perform badly in possession, but when we lost the ball, we didn’t apply the necessary pressure, and this allowed them to exploit the spaces between the lines.
Conceding an early goal was not good, but when we played our style, we created chances. We had opportunities to score, but in the end, they deserved the win. It’s disappointing because we came here to win. We tried, but it wasn’t good enough.”
On Liverpool’s preparation for the match:“We trained fully prepared, sharp and focused, and everyone was ready. We knew the game would be tough at times. We could have defended better as a team. Tomorrow we will analyze the game and prepare for the next one.”
Van Dijk also commented on Chelsea’s performance:“They constantly rotate. Caicedo played as a right-back but is actually a central midfielder. They make a lot of rotations, and this requires a lot of communication and coordination. Tough moments arise during the game, and defeat is always painful. Fortunately, we have lost very little this season, but this defeat really hurts. And it should hurt. Even when the job is largely done, we still stepped onto the field to get a good result. My disappointment is completely natural. I’m really upset.”
