I Have Received a Contract Extension Offer
Szczęsny: It Wasn’t My Fault, I Couldn’t Hold Back My Tears
Wojciech Szczęsny, Barcelona’s goalkeeper, claimed he became emotional after the final whistle of El Clásico and cried involuntarily.
Barcelona secured another victory against Real Madrid in the fourth El Clásico of the season, and now Hansi Flick’s squad is just one win away from celebrating the La Liga title.
One of Barcelona’s stars in tonight’s match, despite conceding three goals, managed to save a one-on-one opportunity from Kylian Mbappé in the closing minutes. Wojciech Szczęsny spoke to reporters after the game about the possibility of staying at Barcelona.
The experienced Barcelona goalkeeper first spoke about his team’s incredible mentality to turn a two-goal deficit into a victory: “As strange as it may sound, I think this has become a habit for us. Maybe being two goals behind isn’t such a big deal anymore.
In fact, when the opponent scores the second goal, they become more worried than us because they know what’s coming next and how the game will end.
But honestly, I would have preferred not to concede those two goals.
Emotional Outburst and Tears After the Match
I managed to hold back my tears until the final whistle, but when it blew, I felt a huge emotional explosion inside. I thank God that after our fifth goal was disallowed, no more shots came my way because mentally, I wasn’t in a good place.
Szczęsny also spoke about his potential contract extension: “The future? I won’t hide that I’ve received a two-year contract extension offer from the club. But first, I need to consult with my family and then decide what’s best for us.
To be honest, my wife makes most of the decisions at home, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Of course, when it comes to football decisions, it’s usually me, but this is an exception.”
