According to reports, since Xavi’s dismissal from Barcelona in May of last year, he has had plenty of time to rest, but his love for football remains strong, and he spends hours watching matches daily. This has frustrated his wife, Núria Cunillera.

In an interview with Atlético, he said: “I still love football; it’s my passion. I watch football 24/7. My wife protests: ‘Again?!'”

I say: “Yes, but this is the Europa League! Did you see Manchester United vs. Lyon? Lyon was leading 4-2, and I thought, ‘Oh no, the situation is tough for Amourim!’ But 10 minutes later, everything changed—it was unbelievable.”

“The most matches I’ve watched in a day was eight! I love analyzing teams. For example, I type Atalanta into my computer and watch four consecutive matches. Why? Because I want to see what Gasperini is planning. He has man-to-man defense, 90-minute duels for every player, so he recruits strong, physical players. Or De Zerbi at Marseille, or Nuno Espírito Santo at Nottingham Forest. I love seeing different football styles and what coaches do.”

After leaving Barcelona, Xavi was replaced by Hans-Dieter Flick, who led Barça to the Champions League semifinals this season. Despite the dismissal, which might be bitter for many, Xavi and his family still adore the club.

He said: “My children love the team; my son idolizes Lamine Yamal and Pedri. My daughter is a fan of Raphinha and Lewandowski. We live fully in the Barcelona atmosphere, both the men’s and women’s teams. Many think I’m upset after leaving Barça, but I’m proud of what Flick is doing and happy with the team’s level.”
