Early return of Laporte to Europe
Despite Ronaldo’s insistence: Al-Nassr star to leave
Spanish newspaper AS reports that despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s insistence on keeping Aymeric Laporte at Al-Nassr, the defender will return to Europe this summer.
Spanish newspaper AS reported that Aymeric Laporte is tired of playing in the Saudi Pro League and will leave Al-Nassr this summer before his contract expires, returning to Europe.
The newspaper claimed, citing sources, that Laporte has been negotiating with Al-Nassr officials for some time and has finally managed to secure their agreement for a mutual termination of his contract.
This comes despite Laporte currently being under contract with Al-Nassr until 2026. Saudi media today claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo had previously insisted in talks with Al-Nassr officials that they should retain Laporte at any cost.
The main reason for Laporte’s decision to leave Al-Nassr, according to Saudi newspapers, is his deteriorating relationship with coach Stefano Pioli. What makes this claim believable is that Laporte’s name was not seen in Al-Nassr’s last two match squads, and he didn’t even sit on the bench.
Aymeric Laporte was signed by Al-Nassr in 2023 for €25 million from Manchester City. His European destination is still unknown, but in the last months of 2024, there were many reports about Real Madrid’s interest in Laporte to fill the gap left by injured defenders, but Real ultimately failed to reach an agreement with Al-Nassr.
