According to reports, Nottingham Forest’s striker collided with the goalpost during Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City. After receiving medical attention for several minutes, he returned to the game but was unable to move properly.

Nottingham Forest confirmed on Tuesday that the 27-year-old player was immediately transferred to the hospital and underwent surgery after the severity of the injury was determined on Monday. Initial reports indicate the surgery was successful. In a complex medical procedure, doctors expected to complete the final stages of the operation by today.

The nature of the injury was such that, in some cases, it could be fatal. The club stated that the striker is “recovering.”

Alongside this update, the club strongly criticized its medical team and critics like Gary Neville, a Sky Sports pundit, who had previously criticized club owner Evangelos Marinakis for entering the pitch and confronting manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

Awoniyi could not be substituted because Forest had already used their final substitution quota, replacing Elliot Anderson with Jota Silva. He tried to stay on the pitch but was unable to move properly.

After Forest was forced to play the final minutes with 10 men, it appeared that Marinakis had grievances with Nuno at the end of the match.
