Famous Nerazzurri President’s Interesting Claim:
I Didn’t Think Inzaghi Was Right for Inter!
Massimo Moratti, former president of Inter Milan, says he was never optimistic about Simone Inzaghi’s appointment as the team’s coach.
According to “Varzesh3,” Inzaghi replaced Antonio Conte as Inter’s coach in 2021. His mission was to keep Inter competitive while the club’s transfer policy primarily focused on selling key players to balance finances.
Although his tenure at San Siro has had ups and downs—including a heartbreaking failure to win Serie A in 2022, losing to Milan by just one point—Inzaghi has managed to lead Inter to the Serie A title in 2024 and two Champions League finals.
Massimo Moratti admitted that his admiration for the Italian coach did not form from the beginning but now he undoubtedly has great affection for him and believes he deserves praise from all football fans. Speaking to Corriere della Sera, he said: “My opinion has changed. Initially, I didn’t think he was the right fit for Inter, but in reality, he is a very good coach, highly prepared, and handles sensitive situations with wisdom and composure.”
While it may be exaggerated to compare the current Inter team with the treble-winning side of 2010, the former president still has his favorite players in today’s squad. He said: “Today, I really like Barella. He has improved a lot. He is a player who surprises you, leaves his opponent behind, fights, and is dangerous in attack. Lautaro is also very strong, and I like Thuram as well—I know his father.”
