Financial Improvement with Advancement to the Semi-Finals
Barcelona’s Big Goal: Net Profit from the Champions League!
Barcelona is determined to secure significant financial gains by advancing to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Barcelona could secure their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League this Tuesday. The team, led by Hansi Flick, enters this match with a significant advantage after a 4-0 victory in the first leg. Unless an unexpected disaster occurs, the Blaugrana will advance to the next round—a major achievement, as they haven’t reached the semi-finals in six years.
Beyond the clear sporting success, this advancement could bring substantial financial reinforcement for the club, as the four teams reaching this stage will each receive €15 million. For Barcelona, this amount is currently a blessing for their financial balance, as the annual budget only accounts for reaching the quarter-finals. Anything beyond that is pure profit.
This figure could increase further if the team reaches the final or wins the tournament. In such cases, UEFA will pay an additional €18.5 million for reaching the final and €6.5 million for winning the title. If this happens, the club would earn a total of €40 million from the Champions League—an amount not initially budgeted for.
So far, Barcelona has earned €67 million from the Champions League this season: €18.6 million for group stage participation, €13.3 million for wins and draws in the group stage, €9.6 million for finishing second, €13 million for reaching the round of 16, and €12.5 million for advancing to the quarter-finals.
Considering the club’s difficult financial situation, along with a significant drop in revenue due to playing matches at Montjuïc Stadium, securing this amount is crucial for balancing the books.
