Red Alert in Dortmund: Captain Injured!
Emre Can, the star of Borussia Dortmund, was absent from the team’s group training today.
According to reports, Can, who has become a key central defender for Borussia Dortmund this season, did not train with the group this morning under Niko Kovač. His participation in the upcoming match against Barcelona at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals — after a 0-4 defeat in the first leg at Montjuïc — remains uncertain.
Dortmund’s club media reported that the German international, who played the full match against Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena on Saturday, trained individually today.
As a consistent pillar of the defensive line and the team’s captain, his absence would be a significant loss, especially since Nico Schlotterbeck, the team’s outstanding 25-year-old defender, left before the first leg. Additionally, Marcel Sabitzer will also not return for this match.
It is assumed that his absence from training is a precautionary measure due to the tight schedule, and he may still be able to play. However, if Emre Can is unable to participate, the defensive line will rely on Niklas Süle, Waldemar Anton, and Ramy Bensebaini, with Kovač potentially using three central defenders or trusting the first two and moving the third to left-back.
