Cosmin Olăroiu: We Must Strive to Become Asian Champions
The head coach of Sharjah expressed his happiness after the victory over Al Taawoun and advancing to the AFC Champions League final.
According to reports, Cosmin Olăroiu, the Romanian head coach of Sharjah FC, thanked his players and fans after the aggregate victory (2-1) over Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun in the two-legged semi-final of the AFC Champions League.
Sharjah had lost the first leg 1-0 but managed to advance to the final by scoring two goals in the 90+4 and 90+9 minutes of the return leg.
Olăroiu said in the post-match press conference: “We started the game poorly and were a bit nervous under pressure, but after 20 minutes, we gradually got into the rhythm of the game.”
He added: “At halftime, I reminded the players that we had also been behind in the first half against Al Wasl, and almost the same scenario repeated today. Fortunately, in the second half, we managed to advance to the final.”
Olăroiu continued: “Now we must strive and fight to win this competition. This opportunity exists for us, regardless of who the final opponent will be or where the match will be held.”
On the other hand, Ousmane Camara, Sharjah’s player and the Man of the Match award winner, said: “I am very happy to reach the final with Sharjah, especially after the tough match we had against Al Taawoun. We are delighted to have scored two late goals, and I dedicate this victory to the fans of Sharjah.”
