Captain’s Heartbreak:
European Final Dream Shattered at Bayern’s Home
Joshua Kimmich, Bayern Munich’s star, is deeply disappointed by his team’s failure to advance to the Champions League semifinals.
According to reports, Bayern Munich faced Inter Milan in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals at their home stadium. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, leaving Bayern unable to overturn the first-leg defeat and resulting in their elimination from the competition.
Kimmich shared his thoughts on Bayern’s Champions League campaign with UEFA: “We had ups and downs. Ultimately, we lost too many games. When you play this many matches in a season, elimination becomes inevitable at some point. We need significant improvement in both attack and defense during crucial matches. The issue isn’t that we can’t compete—we weren’t the weaker team, but we failed to execute efficiently and convert opportunities into victories. That’s what we must improve.”
“Hosting the final at home meant a lot to the fans, the club, and Bayern Munich’s staff. It could have been something truly special. That dream is now shattered. It’s very bitter. When the final is held at our stadium and we’re not there, we’ll feel it deeply. It’s incredibly painful.”
“We must improve in managing our games. Today, we scored first but conceded just 10 minutes later. In the first leg, we equalized but conceded again three minutes later. These are critical moments where we need better control—especially after scoring a goal, the next 10-15 minutes must be managed carefully.”
Kimmich also commented on Thomas Müller’s last Champions League appearance: “We’ll all play our last game at some point. Of course, it’s bitter that his ended in defeat. I would have loved for him to reach the final at home. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be this year.”
