Just a few steps away from immortality
Inter surprised me after Kane’s goal
Marco Materazzi was impressed by Inter Milan’s mental strength in high-pressure moments against Bayern Munich, especially after Harry Kane’s goal.
According to reports, one day after the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, which allowed Inter to advance to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals where they will face Barcelona, Marco Materazzi, former Nerazzurri defender, told Gazzetta dello Sport: “The treble? Only a few steps remain to immortality in history, and the team’s desire to reach the end is so strong that now everything seems possible.”
The former Inter captain praised the team’s unity and solidarity: “Cohesion is the main condition for everything, and without it, you can’t even start. It’s been a long season full of tough matches, but now is the most beautiful moment because it’s time to reap the rewards. This is the time to suffer because energy is depleted, and hardships must be endured. We must take it step by step and plan for each match. Celebrating the semi-final qualification was completely justified, especially after eliminating a great team like Bayern, which is a huge achievement, but now we must think about Sunday’s match and the trip to Bologna. Excessive joy is forbidden.”
What impressed you most about Inter? “The team’s mental ability to understand critical moments. Harry Kane’s goal could have destabilized any team, but Inter acted with complete composure and turned the result around in just a few minutes. This was a heavy psychological blow to Bayern—the gap between their lead and Inter’s comeback was very short, and the Germans seemed caught off guard under Inter’s pressure. But this didn’t happen to Inter. The important thing is that this also applied in the first leg, where Frattesi’s goal came immediately after Müller’s equalizer. This Inter always has control of the game.”
