Bayern is wrong: Lautaro Martinez's goal was correctly awarded

Bayern Munich last night at San Siro against Inter Milan could not get a better result than a 2-2 draw and, considering the 2-1 defeat in the first leg, were eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals and failed to advance to the next stage.

Bayern strongly protested Inter’s first goal, believing Lautaro Martinez had scored after handling the ball and his goal should have been disallowed.

Lautaro scored when Harry Kane had scored the first goal of the game six minutes earlier, and Lautaro managed to equalize and dampen the Bavarians’ spirits.

After Inter’s corner delivery in the crowded Bayern penalty area, the ball hit Lautaro’s hand, and Manuel Gräfe, the former German referee, believed the goal should definitely have been disallowed. But today, Lutz Wagner, a refereeing expert, told Sport1 that Gräfe is wrong and the referee’s decision to award Lautaro’s goal was correct.

The refereeing expert said: “First, the handball by Lautaro was not intentional. His hand was down and in a natural position, and it did not cause the ball to move. The important question is whether the goal was scored immediately after the ball touched the hand. FIFA recently emphasized that if after a questionable handball the ball does not immediately result in a goal, the referee should not disallow the goal. The image clearly shows that the ball reaches Kim Min-jae after hitting Martinez. The ball first hits Kim’s thigh, and he cannot clear it properly. Then Lautaro reaches the ball and scores. Therefore, according to FIFA’s new guidelines, the goal was correctly awarded.”
