Bruno and His 5000th Goal
Bruno Fernandes’ Endless Record-Breaking at Manchester United
The Portuguese midfielder continues to set historic records for the English club.
In the thrilling match between Manchester United and Lyon in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg, Bruno Fernandes achieved another unforgettable milestone at Old Trafford. His penalty in the 114th minute sparked a dramatic comeback for Rúben Amorim’s side.
The captain’s strike marked Manchester United’s 5000th goal in all competitions at Old Trafford, a stadium the club has called home since 1910.
Manchester United played their first match at the “Theatre of Dreams” on January 19 of that year, losing 4-3 to Liverpool. Sandy Turnbull scored the first goal at Old Trafford, having already made history the previous year by securing the club’s first FA Cup.
This isn’t the first time Bruno Fernandes has made history at home.
The Portuguese midfielder, now just four goals away from reaching 100 for Manchester United, previously played a key role in the club’s biggest home victory. In 2021, he scored twice in a 9-0 win against Southampton.
It’s worth noting that Manchester United also achieved a similar result against Ipswich Town in 1995.
