Victor Gyokeres, the Swedish star of Sporting CP, once again proved why he is the top scorer in the Portuguese league. He scored three goals in a 3-1 victory over Moreirense, extending Sporting’s lead at the top of the table over Benfica. The Scandinavian striker has now scored 47 goals in 46 matches.

With this hat-trick, Sporting reached 72 points in the 30th week of the league, while Benfica, who still have to face Vitoria Guimaraes (5th place), have 69 points.

The striker, who has scored 35 goals this season, opened the scoring in the 12th minute at the Jose Alvalade Stadium after capitalizing on a poor clearance by Geny Catamo of Mozambique. In the 25th minute, he scored again with an assist from Francisco Trincao. In the second half, Gyokeres sealed Sporting’s victory with a direct shot in the 52nd minute.

Moreirense (10th place) reduced the deficit in the 56th minute with a header from Spanish player Cedric Teguia, but they couldn’t overcome Gyokeres’ hat-trick.

Sporting’s victory came on the same day that Porto defeated Famalicao 2-1, thanks to two goals from winger Rodrigo Mora.

Porto temporarily sits in third place with 62 points, but Braga, with 60 points, could overtake them if they win against Estoril Praia (9th place) on Saturday.
