Severe Injury to Premier League Defender: Straight to the Hospital!
A serious collision between Jan Paul van Hecke and Younes Konak resulted in severe head injuries for the Brighton defender, leading to his immediate removal from the stadium.
According to “Varzesh3,” the highest-scoring match of the 33rd round of the English Premier League ended with Brentford defeating Brighton 4-2. Thomas Frank’s team moved to 46 points, closing in on Brighton, who are in 11th place with 48 points.
The most significant incident of this thrilling match occurred in the final minutes when Jan Paul van Hecke, Brighton’s Dutch defender, suffered a concerning injury. In stoppage time of the second half, van Hecke and Younes Konak, Brentford’s midfielder, jumped simultaneously to head the ball. After van Hecke cleared the ball, the Brentford attacker collided with him head-on in the most severe manner.
Following this alarming collision, medical teams from both sides immediately rushed onto the field to treat the injured players. While Konak got up without issues after a few minutes, van Hecke’s condition was far more concerning, causing the match to be halted for about 10 minutes.
Initially, the medical staff sat van Hecke on the ground, but they soon laid him flat, administered oxygen, and carried him off the field on a stretcher amid loud applause from both sets of fans. He was quickly taken to the hospital for specialized care.
According to The Sun, van Hecke remains under observation in accordance with the Premier League’s medical protocols. By regulation, any player suspected of a concussion must rest for at least six days before returning to training.
It is worth noting that van Hecke missed Brighton’s previous match against Crystal Palace due to suspension and will now miss at least one more game.
