Historic German Club SpVgg Unterhaching Relegated to Regional League!
The historic SpVgg Unterhaching team has been officially relegated to the German regional league after a heavy defeat against Wehen Wiesbaden. The club managed only four wins this season and cycled through four different coaches without success.
SpVgg Unterhaching’s relegation from Germany’s third division has been confirmed. The team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday, leaving no chance for survival in the league.
Fathi Kaya scored in the 18th minute, while Nicholas Agrafiotis added two more goals (33′ penalty, 51′) to seal Unterhaching’s fate. With only 23 points from 33 matches, the team sits at the bottom of the table, 15 points behind Waldhof Mannheim (38 points), making survival mathematically impossible.
Manfred Schwabl, Unterhaching’s club president, told MagentaSport: “Well, it doesn’t feel good. All I can say is: Happy Easter!” He admitted that relegation had been foreseeable in recent weeks and that a full season analysis was now necessary.
Unterhaching managed only four wins this season under four different coaches—Marc Unterberger, Sven Bender (interim), Heiko Herrlich, and finally Georgian coach Vitali Matviyenko—none of whom could stop the team’s decline.
Although five matches remain, Unterhaching’s survival is practically impossible due to the head-to-head results between Stuttgart II (38 points) and Mannheim in Matchday 35.
