Strong Criticism After the Derby
Germans Against Kane: Not Fit for Big Games!
Bayern Munich fans and German media criticized Harry Kane’s performance in the match against Borussia Dortmund.
According to reports, Bayern Munich could have extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to eight points after Bayer Leverkusen’s 0-0 draw against Union Berlin. However, the Bavarian giants were held to a 2-2 draw by their struggling rivals, Borussia Dortmund, in the Der Klassiker on Saturday. Harry Kane had several chances to change the game in Bayern’s favor but failed to capitalize, drawing criticism from German media and receiving low ratings in player evaluations.
Bild gave Kane a poor rating of 4 out of 10, stating: “He had several opportunities to score, including in first-half stoppage time. However, overall, he was less involved in Munich’s attacks than usual and ineffective in front of goal.”
Three other media outlets also gave Kane the same rating, starting with Focus, which criticized the former Tottenham striker for being “practically invisible throughout the match.” The newspaper Merkur, while giving a low rating, pointed out some of his few positive moments, while Sport1 simply admitted it was “not the Englishman’s night.”
Kane was not spared from fan criticism on social media either, with many users pointing out his tendency to disappear in big games. One user on X wrote: “Watching Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund this afternoon was painful when you saw Kane vanish while his teammates tried to fight back in a tough game. Müller may be technically past his prime, but psychologically, he was still present on the pitch—something you can’t say about Harry.”
Another user wrote: “There are people who think Harry Kane is the best player in the world. If that’s true, how far has this sport fallen?”
Another fan of the team stated: “Harry Kane missed two clear chances in a derby where Bayern drew. The blame falls entirely on him. €100 million transfer fee and €23 million a year, just to waste two clear chances in such a game.”
Another fan added: “The fact that Harry Kane underperforms in big games isn’t discussed enough. The worst player in this regard.”
