Happiness with families
Arteta: We had a great celebration after beating Real Madrid
Mikel Arteta says his team celebrated with their families after eliminating Real Madrid in Madrid.
Following Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium, where Declan Rice shone, the Gunners traveled to Madrid, knowing they had a great chance to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2009.
The first half was dramatic, with Bukayo Saka missing a penalty and a penalty for the home team being overturned after VAR review. The first half ended goalless. However, Saka quickly made up for his mistake with a brilliant goal. Vinícius Júnior equalized immediately, but Gabriel Martinelli scored the winning goal in the 92nd minute to secure a 5-1 aggregate victory for Arsenal.
Arteta told Sky Sports about his team’s joy after the win: “After the game in Madrid, we had a fantastic dinner. Many happy faces, positive energy, and families together. It was a beautiful night. The next morning, we prepared again for the Premier League. We started preparing for the match against Ipswich and the big game ahead.”
Arsenal are currently 13 points behind Liverpool, and if the Gunners lose to Ipswich and Liverpool overcome Leicester City, the Reds could secure their title on Sunday. However, Arteta is eager to delay Liverpool’s title celebrations.
The Arsenal manager said: “We talked about exactly this. We want to increase the possibilities and delay it as much as possible. That’s what we want to do on Sunday.”
