Serie A Matches Postponed Due to Pope’s Funeral Ceremony
Following the death of Pope Francis on the morning of Monday, April 21, 2025, all matches scheduled for Saturday, April 26, coinciding with the Pope’s funeral, have been postponed.
The postponed fixtures include Inter Milan vs. AS Roma, Lazio vs. Parma, and Como vs. Genoa from the 34th round of Serie A. Italian Prime Minister Nelo Musumeci confirmed the news after a cabinet meeting declared five days of national mourning until Saturday.
While concerns about public order in the capital persist for the Lazio-Parma match, and its potential rescheduling is under review, the status of other matches remains uncertain.
Rescheduling the Como-Genoa match, where both teams are not involved in cup competitions and have stable league positions, does not seem overly challenging. However, for Inter, who are competing in the Coppa Italia semifinals and the Champions League, fitting in this match before the end of the season—should they reach both finals—will be difficult.
One possible solution is to hold the match on Friday or Sunday, as Inter is scheduled to face Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday, April 30. However, everything remains uncertain, and we must await official updates.
