Espanyol Has No Issue with García’s Departure
Gunners’ Hope: La Liga Star Heading to Arsenal
It appears that Juan García will be one of Arsenal’s primary targets in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to reports, García has had another outstanding season in La Liga with Espanyol and is now recognized as one of Europe’s top young goalkeepers.
Arsenal attempted to sign García last summer but refused to pay his £23.4 million release clause. Instead, the Gunners opted to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth, but the Brazilian goalkeeper barely featured and is unlikely to secure a permanent deal.
David Raya remains Arsenal’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, but with Jack Porter and Tommy Stefford still too young to compete, Mikel Arteta is expected to seek an experienced yet capable option to provide competition in the position.
Espanyol is also unlikely to block García’s departure if he seeks a new challenge. Manager Gonzalo González confirmed there is no guarantee the goalkeeper will stay beyond this season, stating: “I can’t guarantee García will remain at Espanyol next season. His performances have been outstanding, as you can see.”
García has previously hinted that a summer move could benefit all parties and reiterated in an interview with Estadio Deportivo that if he leaves Espanyol, he will do so amicably. He said: “Right now, I’m not thinking about the future, but you never know what could happen. If something does happen, I hope it will be in the best possible way.”
