According to reports, Chelsea is ready to pay Huijsen’s €60 million (£50 million) release clause in the summer of 2025. Chelsea even wants to secure Huijsen for the FIFA Club World Cup in June 2025, which has a special transfer window for participating teams.

Chelsea’s interest, initially reported by The Independent and confirmed by AS, is the most appealing option for Huijsen, despite clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham also monitoring him. However, Chelsea’s willingness to pay the release clause makes this transfer more feasible.

    Dion Huijsen in action

Huijsen, who has excelled in the Premier League under Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth (27 appearances, 22 as a starter, 2 goals), welcomes the prospect of continuing in the league. His performances earned him a spot in the Spanish national team, notably in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals against the Netherlands (his birthplace).

Real Madrid is also interested in Huijsen, but their heavy investment in young defenders, given the emergence of Asensio in the first team, makes a move for Huijsen uncertain.

Huijsen, who idolizes Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos and whose father is a die-hard Real fan, nearly joined the club in the past, but Juventus acted faster. Huijsen moved from Juventus to Bournemouth for just €15 million and now faces a Chelsea offer that seems the best option for his career progression. This release clause could tie Huijsen’s future to Chelsea.
