Ancelotti’s Anger: The Red Line Endrick Crossed
Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s head coach, warns young players to choose the simplest path to scoring in critical moments—a lesson Álvaro Morata and Endrick have struggled to learn.
According to “Varzesh3,” Ancelotti always emphasizes that before any showboating, the scoring opportunity must be secured or at least approached. He reminds young players of this daily and dislikes behaviors that indicate negligence in critical situations.
Endrick knew this but made the mistake of choosing showboating over a simpler solution. For Ancelotti, this is a fundamental principle, and when players disobey, they face severe consequences.
Álvaro Morata had a similar experience in the 2013-14 season when he was Karim Benzema’s backup as the No. 9. Rarely getting playing time, he had to make the most of every minute on the pitch.
In a match against Valladolid, which ended 4-0 at the Bernabéu, Morata came on in the final 15 minutes. He found himself in a scoring position against Marino but failed to score due to an unnecessary move. Although the score was 3-0, Ancelotti was unhappy and sent him a clear message: “When you have the chance, don’t show off.”
The consequences of this mistake were harsh for Morata; he was benched in 6 of the next 8 matches. Morata later regained his place, playing 34 matches that season with 9 goals and 1 assist—slightly more prominent than Endrick’s current role. He later admitted he didn’t have much of a relationship with Ancelotti. Months later, Morata scored for Juventus against Real Madrid, eliminating them from the Champions League and ultimately leading to Ancelotti’s departure.
Nico Paz had a similar experience last season. After 8 consecutive matches and scoring in the Champions League, he mishandled a counterattack in the Copa del Rey, choosing selfishness over passing to Arda Güler, who was in a better position. Although Ancelotti didn’t publicly criticize him, Paz didn’t play again that season and returned to Castilla. He now shines at Como under Cesc Fàbregas.
