Late for Training Fine: Monaco Defender Forced to Buy iPhones for Teammates
Christian Mawissa, the 20-year-old Monaco defender, has been fined for arriving late to training by being forced to buy 20 of the latest iPhone models for his teammates.
According to reports, AS Monaco has introduced a creative method to combat player tardiness, and Christian Mawissa became the first player to face the consequences. The young defender was 20 minutes late to training, triggering a “wheel of fortune” system in the locker room that assigns various penalties.
The wheel includes punishments such as paying for an expensive team dinner, buying headphones, or PlayStation 5 consoles for the entire squad. The harshest penalty, however, is purchasing 20 of the latest iPhone models—which cost around €1,100-€1,200 each in France—for all teammates. Unfortunately for Mawissa, the wheel landed on this severe punishment.
One of Mawissa’s teammates filmed the moment the wheel stopped on the iPhone penalty, sharing it on Instagram. The entire squad celebrated as if they had scored a crucial goal in a high-stakes match.
