The Referee Was Their First Supporter
Golden Ball Winner’s Heavy Jibe at Real Madrid
Aitana Bonmatí, the best women’s football player in the world, congratulated Barça on their victory while taking a dig at Real Madrid over refereeing decisions in the final.
El Clásico in the Copa del Rey final was one of the most intense matches in recent years, with a storyline worthy of the best thrillers. As expected, reactions on social media quickly followed.
Among the reactions from Barcelona fans, the statements of Aitana Bonmatí and Toni Freixa (former Barça spokesperson and presidential candidate) drew significant attention—both took jabs at Real Madrid and the refereeing team.
Bonmatí, a two-time Ballon d’Or winner, wrote after the match: “What immunity! The greatness and power of Barça, that’s all. Congratulations!!!”
Bonmatí’s remark referred to the referee’s decision to overturn a last-minute penalty awarded to Raphinha after VAR review, as well as a couple of questionable calls favoring Real Madrid, such as ignoring Rüdiger’s foul on Torres inside the box.
Meanwhile, the former Barcelona director was even more active, posting several comments on social media. He first accused Real Madrid players: “As always. Out of helplessness, they just kick.”
He then continued with two more messages aimed at their eternal rival: “As always. Deep hatred. As the great Luís Figo said, ‘Whites, crybabies, salute the champions.’ What an emotional day!!! How deserving we were. That once again we emerged victorious against dirty tricks and those who want to corrupt sports. Long live Barça and long live Catalonia!”
