Pep: We Must Not Lose the FA Cup Title This Year
Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, hopes his team does not lose the FA Cup title like last year.
Manchester City advanced to the FA Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, thanks to goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol, setting up a clash against Crystal Palace.
After the semifinal win, Guardiola expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but acknowledged the challenges in the second half: “Forest pressed more in the second half, which we expected. We lost some balls, and fatigue showed. Our experience was limited. Controlling the ball was difficult for both teams, and we managed the game well. I’m really happy to reach the FA Cup final again.”
Guardiola on Rico Lewis’s early goal: “His movement was excellent. Rico is very strong in tight spaces. He’s an extraordinary player—intelligent and powerful. We must keep possession because if we allow counterattacks, it becomes difficult.”
On whether Mateo Kovacic had his best game this season: “No, his previous game against Aston Villa was outstanding. When a player is close to him, Kovacic helps and remains very composed.”
On facing Crystal Palace in the final: “Just look at what they did yesterday. We played them a few weeks ago and were 2-0 up. Their attacking speed is exceptional, and they have a great coach. They are physically strong and experienced. I hope this year’s final is better than last year’s against Manchester United.”
On the importance of trophies this season: “The Champions League is the most important—it can make up for this season’s struggles. We haven’t had a great season. I want to thank the fans; I know how hard it is for them to travel and get tickets. I can’t thank them enough and hope they support us in the final to see our true gratitude.”
