The Reason for the Clash Between Boca Juniors and River Plate Players
Strange Tension in Superclásico: ‘You Beat Your Children with a Belt!’
A verbal altercation between Boca Juniors’ goalkeeper and River Plate’s striker was one of the strangest tensions in Argentina’s Superclásico and remains a topic of discussion in the country.
According to reports, the Superclásico—the most important football match in Argentina and one of the biggest derbies in world football—ended with River Plate defeating Boca Juniors 2-1. Hours after the match, two incidents remain in focus: Matías Suárez’s exceptional free-kick goal for River and a bizarre verbal clash between players from both teams.
In the 44th minute, a heated verbal altercation erupted between Agustín Rossi, Boca Juniors’ goalkeeper, and Miguel Borja, River Plate’s Colombian striker. New footage released by ESPN revealed the words Rossi directed at Borja—a severe accusation that caused the game to become tense and chaotic.
The footage showed Boca’s goalkeeper approaching River’s striker and saying: “Don’t talk anymore, child abuser. You used to beat your own children.” River Plate players rushed to defend their teammate, leading to a confrontation with Boca’s goalkeeper, which ended with several yellow cards.
Rossi’s accusation refers to reports from October, when Argentine media claimed Borja’s children had called the police to file a complaint against their father. They reportedly told police they were being severely beaten by him.
Samuel and Joer, Borja’s 10-year-old and 7-year-old children, told police their father had beaten them with a belt. However, authorities did not arrest the River Plate striker, as his lawyers quickly intervened, claiming the children were joking, leading to the case being closed before any arrest was made.
