Barcelona to Benefit from Sale of French Defender
The permanent transfer of Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice to West Ham will financially benefit Barcelona.
According to reports, Todibo joined West Ham on loan from Nice last summer with an obligation to buy for €42.5 million if the London club avoided relegation from the Premier League. Their survival was confirmed after Ipswich lost to Newcastle, sealing their relegation alongside Southampton and Leicester City.
With West Ham now obligated to purchase Todibo from Nice, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona will receive 20% of the transfer fee, amounting to €8.5 million for the club managed by Hansi Flick. The Catalan club had previously earned a significant sum for the 25-year-old defender, who joined Barcelona in 2019 but failed to establish himself, being loaned to Schalke and Benfica. Barcelona earned €3.5 million from those loans before selling him to Nice for up to €15.5 million.
Todibo missed several games due to injury during a turbulent season for West Ham but started in 16 of the 23 Premier League matches he was available for. Before his permanent sale in 2021, the French international had made only five official appearances for Barcelona.
