Manchester United legend Paul Scholes assessed the Red Devils’ disastrous season, stating that even a potential Europa League victory wouldn’t make it a positive campaign.

According to reports, Paul Scholes, former Manchester United midfielder, analyzed the team’s situation under Ruben Amorim in his column for TNT Sports, arguing that the current season wouldn’t be positive even with potential European success.

He wrote: “Manchester United have been disastrous in the Premier League this season. Watching their games has been very difficult, and the match against Bournemouth was another tough one. The Europa League has given them some hope. But winning this competition won’t save their season because the Premier League is their main source and that’s where they’re judged. I think Amorim knows this.”

Scholes added: “There’s a glimmer of hope in the Europa League, especially for the fans. They have a tough match ahead against Athletic Bilbao, one of the best teams in this competition. Playing the second leg at home benefits United.”

He continued: “If the second leg was away, I think qualification would be difficult for them, but if they get a good result in the first leg, Old Trafford fans could help them advance in the return match. Given United’s inconsistency, they can’t be considered the main contenders, but among the four remaining teams, their chances are as good as anyone’s.”

The former England international also commented on the potential signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton: “Cunha seems to have the qualities Ruben Amorim is looking for. He knows his team isn’t physically strong or fast enough. That’s why Cunha, who is physically capable and has high quality with 15 league goals this season, seems like an attractive option.”
