Ange Postecoglou:
You Humiliate Us, But Tottenham Will Win the Europa League
Ange Postecoglou accused critical media of taking an irrational stance against Tottenham in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Europa League fixture.
Tottenham’s manager clashed with reporters during his press conference. Ange Postecoglou stated that Tottenham is giving their all to win the Europa League, as they aim to secure a spot in the Champions League next season. The coach claimed that some media outlets are unfairly targeting Tottenham, insulting the club and its fans by suggesting they do not deserve Champions League qualification.
Postecoglou, speaking ahead of Tottenham’s match against Bodø/Glimt, dismissed comparisons to Manchester United’s FA Cup victory last season, which secured their Champions League spot. He argued that winning a European competition cannot be equated to domestic cup success.
Postecoglou told reporters: “I feel like you have a hostile stance against Tottenham. Of course, it’s not surprising because I’ve said before that many people hold this opinion about the club. Most people I see try to convince us that Tottenham is not a big team. They say it’s like Manchester United winning the FA Cup last year and qualifying for the Champions League. No, not at all. This comparison is completely wrong. On no planet is this comparison valid.”
The Tottenham manager continued: “They say we don’t deserve the Champions League. These comments come at a time when we have a great opportunity for a major trophy. Regardless of our Premier League results this season, generations of Tottenham fans want this trophy. We are giving everything to win it, and we owe it to the fans. Yes, if we had performed better in the league, things would be different in Europe, but that doesn’t mean we should waste the opportunity we have now. We are definitely playing to win, and we are not indifferent to these matches.”
