Shigetoshi Hasebe, head coach of Kawasaki Frontale, expressed pride in his team’s historic qualification for the AFC Champions League (Elite) final for the first time in the club’s history. He stated that his team delivered a special performance in this match, showcasing their best possible execution—a result of the players’ commitment and precise implementation of the tactics they had been training for since the beginning of the year.

The Japanese team secured a 3-2 victory over Al-Nassr to advance to the continental final and will now face Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli next Saturday.

Hasebe said in the post-match press conference: “It was a tough game, but we managed to show our best performance, and that’s why we won.”

Regarding his feelings about reaching the final for the first time in the club’s history, he added: “This match was a special occasion for us. We performed well, and I am proud of the team and this great achievement.”

When asked about the final against Al-Ahli and the possibility of another surprise, considering the strong support from Saudi fans, he replied: “The next game… Yes, I definitely want to deliver another surprise for you.”

The Kawasaki coach also commented on Saudi Arabia hosting the tournament: “This is my first time in Saudi Arabia. I am very satisfied with the hotel, training facilities, and matchday conditions. Everyone I met here has been extremely kind and wonderful. Saudi Arabia is a great country.”

He further explained his team’s ability to maintain a high level throughout the full 90 minutes: “As I mentioned earlier, our players have played many minutes—120 minutes against Al-Sadd and 90 minutes today. But their youth helps us. Many think young players lack efficiency, but in Japan, it’s different. That’s why I implemented this idea today and might repeat it in the final.”

Hasebe concluded his remarks with: “I am very happy with this victory. Against a team like Al-Nassr, we needed a solid defense, and that is exactly what will suit us in the final as well.”
