Bruno Fernandes Clashes with Spanish Journalist After Controversial Penalty!
The match between Athletic Bilbao and Manchester United (0-3) on Thursday took a decisive turn with a controversial red-card penalty that is still being debated.
According to reports, in the 35th minute, Dani Vivian fouled Rasmus Højlund in Bilbao’s penalty area. After VAR review, Norwegian referee Espen Skås awarded a penalty and sent off the central defender with a direct red card, judging him as the last man.
This decision sparked major controversy among Athletic players and fans, but ultimately, Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, converted the penalty and later scored another goal to secure a brace.
After the match, during an interview with international media, a Spanish journalist from El Chiringuito asked Fernandes whether the incident changed the course of the game. Bruno responded sharply: “Don’t you think it was a penalty? Do you know the rules? Let me explain. When a player tackles with their foot, it’s a yellow card. But when they use their hand, it has to be a red card.”
He also referenced another potential penalty that wasn’t awarded for Alejandro Garnacho and criticized Spanish and Portuguese media: “In Spain and Portugal, they talk about referees more than anywhere else in Europe.”
