A Hilarious Move in His First Game After Announcing Departure
Jamie Vardy, the King of Comedy!
Jamie Vardy once again showcased his trademark mischief today in Leicester’s match against Southampton.
According to reports, Leicester fans were reminded today at King Power Stadium why they have adored their star player, Jamie Vardy, for so many years. Vardy, who scored for Leicester against Southampton, pulled off a hilarious move just three minutes after his goal when he noticed the referee, David Webb, was injured.
In the 24th minute, referee David Webb collided with Leicester player Jordan Ayew. Webb fell to the ground, and Leicester fans, unhappy with his earlier decisions, chanted: “You fell over nothing, you’re not fit to referee!”
It appeared that Ayew’s elbow had accidentally hit Webb’s face, though it was clearly unintentional. Interestingly, some players continued playing, seemingly unaware of the referee’s fall, until Jamie Vardy took matters into his own hands. He grabbed Webb’s whistle, blew it himself, and playfully stopped the game on the referee’s behalf.
After a short delay, Webb left the pitch still in pain. The stadium announcer declared the match temporarily halted, hoping Webb would return shortly. The game resumed after a nine-minute stoppage, but Webb did not return. Instead, fourth official Sam Brott took over refereeing duties.
Vardy, who had already scored Leicester’s first goal earlier, delighted fans with his antics. This goal was particularly significant as it was his first since announcing his departure from the club.
Jamie Vardy announced last week that he will leave Leicester this summer. The club’s fans, who credit him for their historic and unexpected Premier League title win, say Leicester is losing its greatest legend.
With today’s goal against Southampton, Vardy has now scored 144 Premier League goals, tying Robin van Persie’s record. After 13 years wearing Leicester’s blue shirt, Jamie Vardy is set to leave the club.
