Arteta: We are disappointed, angry and frustrated!
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is furious after the home defeat against Bournemouth.
According to reports, Arsenal lost 2-1 to Bournemouth in the 35th week of the Premier League. The Gunners initially took the lead but conceded two goals in the second half to lose the match.
After the defeat, Mikel Arteta spoke to the media to analyze his team’s performance. Arteta discussed the failure to capitalize on scoring opportunities, defensive weaknesses in set-pieces, and the impact of this defeat on the team’s morale ahead of the match against Paris Saint-Germain.
Mikel Arteta told BBC: “We started the game, and many things we wanted happened. We should have finished the game, but we didn’t. Additionally, if you defend set-pieces the way we did, you will face big problems. We should have closed the game in our favor. We defended very poorly, not at all at our usual standards. We wanted to create good energy today and a very positive atmosphere, but we failed. What we created was disappointment, anger, and frustration. We must ensure we use these emotions on Wednesday.”
He also told the Premier League’s official website: “We had many spaces and opportunities to score but didn’t take advantage of them. When you concede goals from set-pieces, it’s very difficult to get three points. Because we didn’t finish our chances and lost many simple passes, the opponent won. They were running and were very strong in transitions. When we had them, we couldn’t finish. We gave them hope.”
On conceding from set-pieces, he said: “We also lost points against Crystal Palace and Fulham due to set-pieces. This is something that needs improvement. This result didn’t create the right energy. This defeat brought anger, disappointment, frustration, and disillusionment. Let’s use all these emotions on Wednesday. That’s what we must do.”
