Hell Before the Rome Derby: 13 Police Officers Injured
Following violent clashes between fans before the Rome Derby, 13 police officers were injured.
According to “Varzesh3,” violent clashes erupted between fans of the two teams and security forces before the Rome Derby, resulting in injuries to 13 police officers. The incidents occurred near Piazza Cardinal Consalvi and Ponte Milvio, close to the Stadio Olimpico, hours before the match.
Based on reports from Italian media, around 5:30 PM local time, the first signs of tension were observed near Ponte Milvio, where hundreds of Lazio fans suddenly turned back and confronted police while heading toward the stadium.
Simultaneously, a group of approximately 300 Roma ultras attempted to move from Piazza Mancini toward an area designated for Lazio fans. This forced the police to control the crowd on two fronts.
The situation escalated severely. Lazio fans tried to breach the buffer zone but were pushed back using water cannons. The main clashes occurred between the Lungotevere Flaminio and Obelisco areas, where riot police were deployed.
As the crisis intensified, the Rome police command mobilized over 2,000 security personnel and ordered the closure of several streets around the stadium. Initial reports confirmed that 13 officers were injured due to projectiles, fireworks, and flares thrown by fans.
