Drogba: Arsenal Never, Inter Will Win the Champions League
Didier Drogba, former Chelsea and Marseille striker, hopes neither Arsenal nor Paris Saint-Germain will win the Champions League this season.
According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, giving them an advantage ahead of the second leg scheduled for Wednesday.
In the other semi-final, Barcelona and Inter Milan played out an exciting 3-3 draw in the first leg, setting up an intriguing second-leg clash.
Drogba, who scored Chelsea’s winning goal in the 2012 Champions League final against Bayern Munich and frequently troubled Arsenal’s defense during his time at Chelsea, has a storied history. The Ivorian striker also has strong ties to Marseille, PSG’s main rival in Ligue 1, and was reluctant to pick a winner between Arsenal and Luis Enrique’s team in next week’s match.
When asked by RMC Sport which team he would prefer to see in the final—Arsenal or PSG—Drogba replied, “Do you really want to know the answer? Neither of them.”
He added, “But I think it’s good for French football that a team has reached this stage, and I wish them success.”
When asked if seeing PSG’s progress in the tournament was painful for him, Drogba said, “No comment! It’s a fact. It’s good for them, but it doesn’t change anything.”
Drogba then revealed that he would prefer either Barcelona or Inter Milan to win the Champions League, and between the two, he would support Inter.
