Spanish Sports Council’s Controversial Tweet
Attack on the Sports Council: Only Upset About Barcelona’s Elimination!
The Spanish Sports Council expressed regret over Barcelona’s elimination from the Champions League, sparking fierce criticism and accusations of bias.
The Spanish Sports Council has recently been embroiled in controversy over the registration case of Dani Olmo, with most Spanish clubs and their fans accusing the council of abandoning neutrality and openly supporting Barcelona. The Council’s reaction last night after Barcelona’s elimination intensified these accusations.
Shortly after Barcelona’s 4-3 defeat to Inter, the Spanish Sports Council tweeted its regret over Barcelona’s elimination. This tweet quickly went viral, receiving millions of views and over 1,500 comments, most of which were negative. Spanish fans, especially Real Madrid supporters, reminded the Council that it had never expressed regret over the elimination of other Spanish teams, proving once again its bias towards Barcelona.
These fans also reminded the Council of the Olmo case. While La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation opposed Barcelona’s registration of Dani Olmo, the Sports Council ruled in favor of Barcelona, allowing them to register Olmo and Pau Victor.
Interestingly, earlier in the season, three other Spanish teams—Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Girona—had been eliminated from the Champions League, but the Spanish Sports Council did not react or express regret over their eliminations.
